[[wikipedia:Status quo bias|Status quo bias]] is almost universal. On the Internet, people call it "[https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/nothing-ever-happens nothing ever happens]". And for most nations this is true. They're small timers and life just goes on almost all of the time because no one is able to get going in any way.

On the other hand, [[The Decline of Empire|empire nations that define their era are susceptible to massive changes]]. The people of these nations rarely see the changes coming. Sometimes, even after the changes have occurred they still do not realize. In a pub in Wales, in 2011, I overheard a couple of Welsh lads talking about how they should take back India.
