A thing I used to think as a child was that I was the tip of the spear: my most recent ancestor generations reached their apotheosis in me. Some might argue this is some light megalomania but I think it was a pretty useful belief. I started life with a purpose to fulfill. This was helped along with the fact that my parents did love me very much and made my brother and me the center of our family's world.
As I've grown older, I became more aligned with a belief that I am the shaft of the spear. My children will be the tip until the moment that they, too, become the shaft of the next generation (if they should see that worth doing). And so on.
